Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect from a session with Alex Genealogy?
Each session is tailored to your goals; whether you’re exploring your family tree, requesting a historical consultation, or preparing for a presentation. We’ll discuss your objectives, review any materials you have, and map out the next steps. You’ll walk away with a clearer understanding of your ancestry, a plan of action, and expert guidance rooted in cultural sensitivity and accuracy.
What do I need to start a genealogy project?
We recommend gathering any family names, birth/death dates, locations, oral histories, photos, or documents you may already have. Even limited information can provide a strong starting point. We’ll guide you in organizing what you have and identify where deeper research is needed to uncover your full family story.
Why do I need to book presentations 7–9 weeks in advance?
High-quality, personalized presentations take time. We research your requested theme or community focus, customize visuals and narratives, and ensure the content reflects historical accuracy and cultural relevance. Booking in advance ensures we can deliver a powerful and polished experience for your group, classroom, or event.
Why do I need to pay a deposit?
A deposit secures your booking and allows us to begin allocating time, resources, and preliminary research specific to your project. This ensures a professional and timely experience for every client. Deposits also help maintain scheduling integrity, especially for in-demand services and events.
Why are there fees associated with travel for the research?
Travel fees cover the time, transportation, lodging (if necessary), and on-site expenses involved in accessing archives, courthouses, cemeteries, and historical sites that may not have online records. These trips allow us to retrieve valuable documents, conduct in-person interviews, and verify information critical to your family history. We ensure all travel is purposeful and contributes meaningfully to your research outcome.
What payment types do you accept?
We accept major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and pay-in-4. Payment details will be provided during the booking process, and invoices are available upon request.
What is your return/refund policy?
Due to the custom nature of genealogy research and presentations, deposits are non-refundable. However, we are committed to delivering quality service. If you need to reschedule or adjust the scope of work, we’ll make every effort to accommodate within reasonable timeframes. Refunds for completed services are not issued, but client satisfaction is always a top priority.
